FAQs
Can you put Travertine/Marble in an outdoor situation?
Yes, with the correct finish your table will last for years outside. Some of Romes oldest buildings are manufactured out of travertine.
Is Travertine a Marble?
It is more like a cousin to marble. Travertine was formed differently than marble. This process happened when thermal springs with a wealth of calcium bicarbonate dissolved in the heat of the water, transforming into particles dropping to the bottom of the lake. This produced the sedimentary stone we know today.
Can I have a different sized table?
All Status tables are custom made, so they can be made as large as the slabs and safe handling will allow or as small as you wish.
How do I care for my travertine/marble table?
The tables used for indoors have a lacquered sealer to protect from spills, although they have this coating care must still be taken.
- Always make a habit of using tablecloths or placemats. Failure to do this can cause scratching and pitting which will in time reduce the life of the lacquer.
- If spills occur wipe with warm water and detergent using a soft cloth. Difficult marks may be removed using a 50/50 mixture of water and mentholated spirits gently wiped over the mark.
- Avoid extreme heat on the surface and do not leave damp objects on the surface of the table for a prolonged length of time.
- Never use an abrasive cleaner or an abrasive action (scrubbing) when cleaning. Also never use a cleaner with a silicon base eg. Mr Sheen as this will impregnate the stone and make it difficult to re-lacquer in the future.)
